**** After a date in Reims earlier this year, the Trio Magadis (harpists Frédérique Cambreling, Laurence Bancaud and Elodie Reibaud) will give another performance of Gestes et Fascinations, a musical and poetic concert around works by Tôn-Thât Tiêt, Steve Reich, as well as women composers Caroline Lizotte, Zurine Gerenabarrena and Hélène Breschand, this time at the Conservatoire Claude Debussy, in the 17th arrondissement in Paris at the Rostropovich auditorium, on Tuesday 14 April 2026 at 8pm. Gestes et Fascinations includes one of Tôn Thât Tiêt’s most recent works, Escapade.
L’année du Cheval de Feu commence avec Vô Vi, une œuvre de Tôn Thất Tiết pour orchestre à cordes composée en 1974, créée à Radio France l’année d’après, et qui sera donnée lors de deux concerts parisiens intitulés ‘Jeux d’orchestres’ les 19 et 20 février 2026, avec l’Ensemble orchestral du PSPBB sous la direction de Claire Levacher.
Le concert invitera le public à voyager du Baroque, avec Handel, traverser l’ère classique avec Haydn, puis le romantisme avec Schumann – Clara et non pas son illustre époux, jusqu’au XXème siècle.

The Year of the Fire Horse begins with Vô Vi, a work for string orchestra composed in 1974 and premiered at Radio France the following year, which will be performed during two Parisian concerts entitled “Jeux d’orchestres” on 19 and 20 February 2026, with the PSPBB Orchestral Ensemble under the baton of Claire Levacher.
The concert will take the audience on a journey from the Baroque era with Handel, through the Classical era with Haydn, then Romanticism with Schumann – Clara and not her illustrious husband – to the 20th century.
The UPEI Contemporary Music Festival (held at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada) will open with a recital by pianist Megaria Halim entitled Archipelagic Voices, which will feature works by South-East Asian composers. Along with saxophonist Nicole Strum, Megaria Halim will premiere Romance, a piece for saxophone and piano that Tôn Thất Tiết composed in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his marriage to Tâm Qùy.
“Archipelagic Voices explores the sound worlds of contemporary composers from Southeast Asia, drawing on folk traditions, mythology, and distinctive sonic landscapes. Through a range of modern works, the program highlights how these composers reimagine cultural memory, timbre, and gesture within contemporary musical language.”
The concert will be held at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, on March 6, 2026, at 7:30 P.M.

Le Festival de musique contemporaine de l’UPEI (l’Université de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard au Canada) s’ouvrira avec un récital de la pianiste Megaria Halim intitulé Archipelagic Voices « Voix archipélagiques », présentant des œuvres de compositeurs d’Asie du Sud-Est.
Accompagnée de la saxophoniste Nicole Strum, Megaria Halim créera Romance, une pièce pour saxophone et piano composée par Tôn Thất Tiết en 2019 pour célébrer le 50e anniversaire de son mariage avec Tâm Qùy.
« Voix archipélagiques » explore les univers sonores de compositeurs contemporains d’Asie du Sud-Est, puisant dans les traditions folkloriques, la mythologie et des paysages sonores singuliers. À travers un éventail d’œuvres contemporaines, le programme met en lumière la manière dont ces compositeurs réinventent la mémoire culturelle, le timbre et le geste au sein du langage musical contemporain.
Une nouvelle oeuvre de Tôn Thất Tiết, intitulée Escapade, et écrite pour trois harpes, sera créée lors du concert Gestes et Fascination, conçu par les harpistes Frédérique Cambreling et Laurence Bancaud – toutes deux interprètes de longue date du compositeur, ainsi que Elodie Reibaud.

A new work by Tôn Thất Tiết, entitled Escapade, and written for three harps, will be premiered during Gestes et Fascinations, a concert conceived by harpists Frédérique Cambreling and Laurence Bancaud – both long-time performers of the composer, and Elodie Reibaud.
Le Festival d’été de Gargilesse, pour sa 56è édition,; qui se déroulera du 6 au 20 août 2023, aura le plaisir de célébrer les 130 ans de la naissance de son fondateur, Pierre Jamet… et les 90 ans de sa Présidente d’honneur, Marie-Claire Jamet ! Comme chaque année, le festival innove : le 12 août 2023 aura la particularité d’accueillir sept harpes, comme les sept couleurs de l’arc-en ciel, les sept notes de la gamme et les sept pédales d’une harpe ! Une forêt de harpes va investir l’église romane de Gargilesse, dont quatre seront réparties dans la nef et les transepts, pour interpréter Forêt de Gargilesse de Tôn Thât Tiêt : lui aussi fêtera ses 90 ans avec ce dernier opus composé lors de sa dernière visite dans le village de Gargilesse et qui sera présent pour le concert!
For this 56th edition of the Gargilesse Summer Festival, which will run from August 6 to 20, 2023, we will be pleased to celebrate the 130th year of the birth of its founder, Pierre Jamet as well as the 90th birthday of his Honorary President, Marie-Claire Jamet! As for every passing year, the festival will innovate: for this edition, a special concert will be held on August 12 at the Roman church of the town. The audience will hear and see Forêt de Gargilesse, a piece that Tôn Thât Tiêt composed for seven harps – like the seven colours of the rainbow, the seven notes of the scale or the seven pedals of the harp! The harps will be playing from seven spots in the nave and transepts of the church, a magical immersive musical experience envisioned by the composer during his last visit, when he walked in the woods that surround the town. And as things never happen for no reason, Tôn Thât Tiêt will also celebrate his 90th birthday this year and will be present at this concert. A wonderful celebration this will be!
A filmed performance of Tôn Thât Tiêt‘s Hoang Dziêp, a piece for two harps composed in 2012 and dedicated to Laurence Bancaud, who plays it with Frédérique Cambreling. Both of them have been long-time friends and champions of the composer’s music.
“Hoang Dziêp means ‘yellow leaves’, Autumn leaves, or the autumn of life. Hoang Dziêp carries the memory of my previous works for harp. Unconsciously, the E flat sound appears as an image that comes from afar. Some of my works whose ideas come from Buddhist thinking have this same main note E flat. This sound also has a colour that I see as the ‘colour of the soul’, an unreal colour. The work ends with an energetic E flat from both harps, like a condensation of mental energy. Autumn is not calm, peaceful, but full of energy.”

Laurence Bancaud et Frédérique interprètent Hoang Dziêp de Tôn Thât Tiêt, une oeuvre pour deux harpes composée en 2012 et dédiée à Laurence Bancaud. “Hoang Dziêp signifie feuilles jaunes. Feuilles d’automne, ou l’automne d’une vie, Hoang Dziêp porte le souvenir de mes précédentes œuvres pour harpe. Inconsciemment le son Mib apparaît comme une image qui vient de loin. Certaines de mes œuvres dont l’idée vient de la pensée bouddhiste ont cette même note principale Mib. Ce son a aussi une couleur que je vois comme la ” couleur de l’âme “, une couleur irréelle. L’œuvre se termine par un Mib énergique des deux harpes, comme une condensation de l’énergie mentale. L’automne n’est pas calme, paisible, mais plein d’énergie.“

The day will continue with a performance of ‘L’Arbalète Magique’, a chamber opera for 9 singers, viola, harp, flute and percussion, on a libretto by Tâm Qùy based on the Vietnamese legend of Mỵ Châu and Trọng Thủy. The Caen Conservatory has the particularity of having its own orchestra and also its own festival. The Festival Aspects des Musiques d’Aujourd’hui 2022 celebrates its 40th anniversary, from 14 to 20 March 2022, a formidable musical laboratory that closely associates the teaching teams and students of the Caen Conservatory, whose two auditoriums host the concerts and the public. For 40 years, musical creation has been continuously displayed in Caen in a spirit of openness, eclecticism and sharing; by bringing together contemporary music and the general public, the Caen Festival is a model, particularly because the events take place in a friendly and human atmosphere. All the great contemporary composers have passed through the Aspects Festival since its creation in 1982 by Jean-Pierre Dautel (founder of the Caen Orchestra). For this 40th edition, the Conservatoire & Orchestra of Caen are hosting music concerts, exhibitions, cultural meetings and many other artistic events, which involve in an exemplary way the students and teachers of the Conservatoire and the Orchestra of Caen; in 2022, the programme offers a wide choice of writing, with many concerts also integrating authors and works from previous editions – unfortunately postponed due to the pandemic: Martin Matalon, Tôn-Thât Tiêt. Without forgetting a little winks to 1982, the year of the Festival’s inauguration… Thus, to pieces premiered during the first edition will be “revived”: “Psappha” by Iannis Xenakis and “Vingt regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus” by Olivier Messiaen.

At 6.30 pm, the students of the Conservatoire & Orchestre de Caen invite the audience to attend the ‘Arc-en-ciel’ avant-scène. During this recital, works by Luciano Berio (‘4 Canzoni populari’ and ‘Duetti’), Kaija Saariaho (‘Danses des Flocons’), Thierry Pécou (‘Lolohi’) György Kurtág (‘Et c’est ainsi’), György Ligeti (‘Arc en Ciel’ 5th Study), Ivan Fedele (‘Antipodas’), Peter Eötvös (‘A taxi is waiting but Chekov prefers to walk home’), and Tôn-Thất Tiết (‘Ai Van’) will be performed.
The evening concert with the Orchestre Régional de Normandie, under the baton of Jean Deroyer, features a programme of two pieces by Tôn Thât Tiêt – ‘Vô Vi’ and ‘Les Jardins d’autre Monde’, as well as Debussy’s 2 Dances for harp and Orchestra, and the world premiere of P.Q. Phan‘s ‘East Wind’, a work commissioned by the Aspects Festival and the Orchestre Régional de Normandie.
Par ailleurs, Une Emotion à transmettre, un nouveau documentaire réalisé par Laurence Bancaud sera diffusé en continu dans la salle de jazz, les samedi 18 et dimanche 19 mars. En mars 2021, lors du Festival Aspects des Musiques d’Aujourd’hui dédié au compositeur Tôn Thât Tiêt, la musicologue Laurence Bancaud a réalisé un documentaire autour du Festival et de ses thématiques de prédilection : la jeunesse et la création. Ce documentaire alterne extraits de pièces interprétées par les élèves du Conservatoire lors des concerts pédagogiques coordonnés par Yvon Quénéa, et témoignages des élèves, enseignants et équipes du Conservatoire & Orchestre de Caen.
In March 2021, during the Festival Aspects des Musiques d’Aujourd’hui dedicated to the composer Tôn Thât Tiêt, musicologist Laurence Bancaud made a documentary entitled “Une Emotion à transmettre” about the Festival and its favourite themes: youth and creation. This documentary alternates extracts of pieces performed by the students of the Conservatoire during the educational concerts coordinated by Yvon Quénéa, and testimonies of students, teachers and staff of the Conservatoire & Orchestra of Caen. The documentary will be screened continuously on March 18 & 19 in the Jazz Room of the conservatory.
La nouvelle pièce de Tôn Thât Tiêt, Forêt de Gargilesse, pour sept harpes sera créée lors du festival Harpe en Avesnois, qui pour cette 28è édition, rendra hommage au grand harpiste français Pierre Jamet, à qui Tôn Thât Tiêt a dédié l’oeuvre. Frédérique Cambreling, Ghislaine Petit-Volta,Annie Lavoisier et Laurence Bancaud seront parmi les harpistes présentes sur scène pour cette création unique.
Tôn Thât Tiêt’s new work Forêt de Gargilesse will have its world premiere at the upcoming Festival Harpe en Avesnois which will celebrate its 28th edition in honour of harpist Pierre Jamet. Have you ever walked down the main street of the village of Gargilesse during the harp festival in August? Harpists from all over the world take over the village and work on their workshop and concert programs. It is warm, the windows are open and the streets resound with a multitude of crystalline sounds coming from all sides, like a forest of harps, singing and enchanting trees, enveloping the walker in his journey.Such is the sound image that Tôn-Thât Tiêt keeps in memory from his stays in Gargilesse, and it is around this initial idea that his piece for seven harps is woven: Forêt de Gargilesse, written as a tribute to Pierre Jamet. Among the harpists, Laurence Bancaud, Frédérique Cambreling, Annie Lavoisier and Ghislaine Petit-Volta, will be there on stage to perform the piece.
